Valentine's Day ideas

Updated: Feb 11, 2024

Hello readers, I am Diana Duque, your go-to Life Coach.

Valentine's Day, the day we give a little extra love, where hearts skip beats and smiles run wild (I do not understand why, but my 3 boys are always really excited about this day.) It's like a reminder to stop and smell the roses, to hug a little tighter, and laugh a little louder. Let's not get too caught up in the fancy stuff, but instead, let's enjoy each other's company, share some laughs, and maybe indulge in a bit of chocolate-covered bliss. Here's to us, just being together, loving each other, and making memories that'll last a lifetime.

I am going to share some ideas that you can use for this "special day":

  1. Romantic dinner at home: Cook a special meal together or surprise him with his favourite dishes. Set the mood with candles, soft music, and a beautifully decorated table.

  2. DIY spa night: Create a relaxing spa experience at home with facial masks, and soothing baths. Pamper each other and enjoy some quality time together.

  3. Outdoor adventure: Plan a day trip to a nearby scenic spot for a hike, picnic, or bike ride. Enjoy the beauty of nature while spending time together.

  4. Movie marathon: Choose a few of your favourite movies or binge-watch a new series together. Don't forget the popcorn and cosy blankets for a perfect movie night at home.

  5. Game night: Challenge each other to a friendly game night with board games, card games, or video games. Let the competitive spirit add some excitement to your Valentine's Day.

  6. DIY project: Work on a DIY project together, whether it's painting, crafting, or redecorating a room. Get creative and enjoy the satisfaction of completing something as a team.

  7. Surprise gift exchange: Exchange gifts that reflect your love and appreciation for each other. It could be something thoughtful, sentimental, or even humorous to make each other smile.

Remember, the most important thing is to spend quality time together and celebrate your love in a way that feels meaningful to both of you. Happy Valentine's Day!

if you are a parent, like me, and you would like to do something nice on Valentine's day with the family, here are some family-friendly Valentine's Day activities for parents to do with their children:

  1. Valentine's Day craft session: Set up a craft station with materials like construction paper, markers, stickers, and glue, and let everyone get creative making homemade Valentine's Day cards or decorations for the house.

  2. Bake and decorate Valentine's treats: Spend some time in the kitchen baking heart-shaped cookies or cupcakes together. Let the kids help with mixing, rolling dough, and decorating with colourful icing and sprinkles.

  3. Family movie night: Choose a family-friendly Valentine's Day movie or animated film to watch together. Don't forget the popcorn or cookies.

  4. Scavenger hunt: Create a Valentine's Day-themed scavenger hunt around the house or in the backyard. Hide small treats, Valentine's Day-themed toys, or love notes for the kids to find.

  5. DIY pizza night: Set up a pizza-making station with various toppings and let each family member create their own personalized heart-shaped pizzas. It's a fun and interactive way to bond over a delicious meal.

  6. Family game tournament: Have a friendly game tournament with board games, card games, or even outdoor games if weather permits. Let the kids choose their favourite games and enjoy some quality time together as a family.

  7. Outdoor adventure: If weather allows, plan a family outing such as a nature walk, bike ride, or trip to the park. Enjoy the fresh air and spend time exploring together as a family.

  8. Storytime with a twist: Instead of the usual bedtime story, create a special Valentine's Day-themed Storytime with books about love, kindness, and friendship. Let the kids participate by acting out scenes or making up their own endings.

  9. Family dance party: Clear some space in the living room, put on some upbeat music, and have a family dance party. Get silly, show off your best dance moves, and enjoy some light-hearted fun together.

These activities are not only fun but also provide opportunities for parents and children to bond and create lasting memories together on Valentine's Day.
